Society of All Saints Sisters of the Poor (UK)

As All Saints Sisters of the Poor, we believe we are called to be alongside the homeless and unemployed, the sick, the dying, the bereaved, the old, the lonely - any who welcome the friendship we offer as companions journeying together. In Oxford the community has pioneered: St John's Home, a residential home for elderly people; Helen House, a hospice offering respite and terminal careand bereavement support for children with life-limiting illness and their families, and Douglas House for the 16-40 age-group; the Porch, a drop-in refreshment centre for the homeless and unemployed; and has continued to do Church embroidery. Helen House, Douglas House, and The Porch Steepin' Stone Centre are now independent charities, associated with the Society of All Saints. Two Sisters as now living in Apsley, where there are opportunities for ministry. Pastoral visiting, preaching and public speaking, hospitality and spiritual direction are some of the ways in which we live out our calling.
At the centre of this activity and undergirding it is the daily round of celebrating the liturgy together, with opportunity and commitment to set aside time for prayer, reading, and waiting upon God. We need also to set aside time for one another, sharing meals, talking, caring, listening, respecting and cherishing one another over the years. It is only in being with God and with one another, amidst all the activity, that we come to know the true purpose and calling of our lives.
